There are two specific types of computers, which are laptops and desktop computers. Each type of computer has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of a Laptop

Portability

The most significant advantage of a laptop is its compact size. Laptops are developed to be used in all situations. The device can be put in a backpack, unlike a desktop.

Flexibility

Laptops are useful, flexible, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some can even be converted into pads. Additionally, laptops can be connected to several external devices with ease. Also, laptops are easy to setup.

Power Consumption

A laptop consumes less power than a desktop due to the smaller components. Also, a laptop usually possesses batteries, which is convenient.

Disadvantages of a Laptop

Cost

In general, laptops are more expensive than desktops. A laptop that is of the same specifications as a desktop mostly costs more than a desktop.

Specifications & Repair

Due to size, the CPU, RAM, and internal storage of laptops are usually no match for desktops. As such, gamers don't use laptops for gaming. Also, it isn't easy to improve the features of laptops. Likewise, laptops are difficult to repair when they breakdown. Additionally, due to lack of space, most laptops have shorter keyboards.

Advantages of a Desktop Computer

Cost

Desktops are cheaper than laptops. A high performing desktop usually costs way less than a laptop of similar specifications.

Screen Size

The screen sizes of laptops are no match for that of desktops. Desktops can come in very large screen sizes that can be up to about 20-inches.

Specifications & Repair

Desktops have better specifications and are easily upgradable at a cheaper cost. These devices are suitable for high-performance activities such as gaming and can easily be repaired, unlike laptops.

Disadvantages of a Desktop Computer

Portability

Desktops are bulky and usually not movable. Therefore, these devices are not portable and must be stationed in a single location.

Flexibility

Apart from their lack of portability, desktops are also difficult to setup. In most cases, these devices cannot be manipulated as easily as laptops.

Power Consumption

Desktops consume a lot of power and do not come with a backup power supply. Any fluctuation in the power supply can lead to disruption in use. Therefore, an additional backup power system must be installed to ensure stability.
